Gathering Prayer
P O God, our Maker, Redeemer, and Comforter, we are assembled in your presence to hear your holy Word. We pray that you would open our hearts by your Holy Spirit, that through the preaching of your Word we may be taught to repent of our sins, to believe in Jesus in life and in death, and to grow day by day in grace and holiness. Hear us for Christ’s sake. C Amen.

Brief Order for Confession and Forgiveness
Leader In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Cong. Amen
L Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open and all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. C Amen.
L If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Silence is kept for reflection) Most merciful God,
C We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
L Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us, and for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

WELCOME TO WORSHIP!
Worshippers are invited to sign the yellow welcome insert. Your public prayer concerns will be shared in worship, while your private prayer concerns will be kept within the weekly prayer fellowship group. Please place in the offering plate or give to an usher.
Holy Communion is served the first and third weekend of each month. We believe that Christ is truly present in the Sacrament, and that through this gift, we receive the forgiveness of our sins, life, and salvation. Visitors who commune in their home congregations are welcome at the table. If you would like to receive communion but are unable to come forward, please notify an usher, who will direct a server to bring the elements to you. White grape juice is available on Sundays for those who prefer it.
Listening devices for those who are hard of hearing are available during Sunday worship from an usher.
Children’s activity bags are located by the entrance to the worship space. Children’s bulletins also available from an usher.
The Radio Broadcast is sponsored to the glory of God by the people of St. John’s.
All are invited to join us for coffee fellowship in the dining hall following Sunday worship. Thank you to Selma & Jay Evenson, Eleanor Koepp, and Cindy & Doug Nelson for serving. An elevator, located in the overflow room, is available for your use.

January Mission of the Month will be the St. John’s Campership Fund. We are excited that many students are choosing to go to camp each summer through Lutherans Outdoors. Our congregation supports campers so that their cost is reduced to $100 per week. It’s a great investment in our kids! Some of their comments are as follows:
“Some of my best memories were Bible study, singing around the campfire, riding horse and playing night games. I thank our church so much for giving me an amazing opportunity to connect with God through camp. The church is a safe and loving place to be!”
-- Courtney S., grade 10, Klein Ranch
“I loved free time, games and canteen. I learned that Jesus is always with us and never leaves our side. The church is a place to worship God, to receive forgiveness of our sins and to be a sanctuary for prayer. Camp is a lot of fun and I think you should go!”
– Jake S., grade 8, NeSoDak
“Bible study and meeting new friends were my favorite things to do at camp. We learned about the steps of Jesus’ life on the walk of faith. I used my time at camp to learn about Jesus and to be a good friend. I had a blast at camp and I cried when I had to go home because I loved camp!” – Janessa S., grade 4
On January 15, we will have Lutherans Outdoors Sunday. Staff from NeSoDak will be present to share about programs across the whole state of South Dakota. Come and hear about what is new in camping and share in the larger vision of sending our students to a wonderful summer experience!
