SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL

CITY OF WEBSTER, SOUTH DAKOTA

            Council room, City Hall, Webster, South Dakota, July 11, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. a special meeting was held with Mayor Mike Grosek presiding.  Councilmen present:  Roger Monson, Dave Jesme, Wayne Klungseth, Jim Grimes, Morgan Dorsett and Wally Pribyl.  Attorney:  Leon VanderLinden.  Staff:  Linda Hoberg.  Reporter and Farmer:  George Thompson.      

            Joe Medanich representing Fury Fights, Inc. was present to discuss the potential upcoming mixed martial event.  Medanich informed the council he is meeting with the school board this evening, and if the school board approves the event, Fury Fights, Inc. would partner with The Decoy and would like to obtain an alcoholic beverage license for this event.  Following discussion, a motion was made by Monson, seconded by Pribyl to set a hearing on August 1, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. for a Special Alcoholic Beverage License for the Decoy for August 13, 2011 at the Webster Armory.  All councilmen voting aye.  Motion carried.    

            5:30 p.m. This being the time and place for the opening of sealed bids for a two-inch overlay on approximately eight blocks of city streets.  The following bids were received: 

Serocki Excavating, Inc., Browns Valley, MN, ½ inch mix with an extra ¼ inch asphalt used on streets that are gravel instead of prime oil:  $101,992.70; ¾ inch mix with an extra ¼ inch asphalt used on streets that are gravel instead of prime oil:  $101,992.70. 

 

Bituminous Paving, Inc., Ortonville, MN, ¾ inch mix with 2 ¼ inch overlay on 3 blocks and 2 inch overlay on remainder of streets:  $95,082.00. 

 

Lien Transportation Company, Aberdeen, SD, ½ inch asphalt overlay 2 inches to 2 ¼ inches:  $153,514.50; ¾ inch asphalt overlay 2 inches to 2 ¼ inches:  $144,589.50. 

Motion by Monson, seconded by Jesme to accept the bid from Bituminous Paving, Inc.  All councilmen voting aye.  Motion carried. 

            5:40 p.m. This being the time and place for the opening of sealed bids for construction of a roof over the bleachers at the ball field complex.  The following bid was received:  Greg Johnson Construction, Inc., Bristol, SD, 25 ft. x 44 ft. single slope roof, steel frame structure:  $23,316.37.  Motion by Dorsett, seconded by Pribyl to approve the bid from Greg Johnson Construction.  All councilmen voting aye.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Monson, seconded by Grimes to approve the payment to H. C. Clark, Implement in the amount of $31,200.00 for the Bobcat skidsteer loader.  Payment is to be divided among the departments using the machine.  All councilmen voting aye.  Motion carried. 

            No further business, motion to adjourn by Jesme, seconded by Pribyl.  Motion carried.
